Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible – Tony Robbins

We talk a lot about being clear on our vision and what we want for our lives – across all the elements of our lives, that we need to be very clear on what we want and desire to be, do and have.

The way we make that vision actually become our physical reality, to bring it to life, is that we need to set goals.

And once we have set those goals, we need to make a plan for what we need to do to achieve them.

Not everyone sets goals. We might set a goal to buy a house, go on a holiday, get a new job. But that’s the extent of it. And a lot of people who do set goals don’t achieve them. Maybe they are not aligned enough to their why, maybe the plan to achieve them is not realistic, maybe they are just a bit too lazy 

If you do want things to change in your life, start setting goals. And if you have set goals but don’t seem to be moving any closer towards them, go back to your vision, to your why you want to do it, and make a better plan for how you are going to draw them towards you.

Like anything in your life, remember, it’s baby steps that will get you there. So start from where you are, set a goal that feels achievable. Achieve it. Then build on it. As you go, you can start setting stretch goals. Big hairy audacious goals. The principle to achieving them is the exact same as smaller, baby goals. Once you understand the process and how you best need to operate to achieve them. You build up to them, you grow into them.

Have a think about a daily goal that you would like to achieve in your daily life. Something that you would like to improve in your life, that you actually do know what to do but that you simply are just not doing it. Something that you always find an excuse or a reason not to do it.

Something that in the doing of it will help you to feel better about yourself and your life and that you know is contributing to the broader vision you have for your life and the person you would like to be. Daily habits are a great place to start. Because if we can change our habits, we can change our life.

It could be regarding health (eg eat breakfast every day, go for a walk every day)

finances, relationships, with your work or business, it could be something like going to bed at a certain time, or making your bed on a daily basis.

Set a 7 day goal.

Make a daily plan to achieve it. Block out the time in your calendar, have a reminder on your phone, share your goal with an accountability buddy, don’t let yourself go to bed until it’s done.

Prove to yourself you can do it.

The more you practice it, the better you will become.

For a goal to be a goal, it needs to be SMART.

Specific
Measureable
Achievable
Realistic
Timebound
