Episode 89

The Messy Middle with Cynthia Merrill

Every journey has an element of excitement and nervous energy at the beginning, a celebration at the end, and at times a very (very) messy middle. This is the bigger story arch of life really in a lot of ways, and also corresponds with the creative writing process. Reading about characters living through their mess also helps connect us with them in a far more meaningful way.

Cynthia Merrill is a writing coach and editor by profession, but a writer by nature. She is joining me on the show today to talk about the messy middle. And how the messy middle is nothing to be feared, but rather an experience to be embraced. For it is within the mess that the magic and growth happens. It is where resilience, tenacity and confidence are forged. So for all of the discomfort it may present, the mess also offers many moments worth celebrating.

Showing up to start and undertake a task is a party and celebration worth taking a moment for. Because let’s face it, when we hit rock bottom and are unhappy, it is because we stopped showing up for ourselves. The negative self-talk, limiting beliefs and the uncomfortable emotions holding us hostage in our stuck-ness are simply a by-product of not showing up.

Listen in to this episode to discover how you can learn to seek out, love and embrace the messy middle in your life.

My Mission

Fiona Redding

Fiona Redding

My mission in life is to share everything I have learned – and am continuing to learn – about turning my own life around and to really help you understand that happiness is to be found in the overcoming of obstacles and challenges in your life, and not in the absence of them.  To achieve your potential in life, you need to become your potential.  And for that to be, you need to understand yourself, and learn how to harness your strengths and overcome your weaknesses.   You have the power within you to create whatever reality you choose, and I am here to help you know that if you don’t like what you are experiencing, then you can absolutely change that.   But you do have to choose, believe, and be open to all possibilities, and to keep showing up every day, even when it feels really hard. Because if you do what is easy, your life will be hard.  But if you do what is hard, your life will be easy.
