The book was fantastic! For someone like me who has virtually zero meditation practice, well, very limited and unskilled at best with the odd app in the app store, which didn’t do much for me.
This book broke all the steps down beautifully into manageable bitesize chunks, which is perfect for newbs like me. Most important, not to expect miracles overnight because it won’t happen. It’s a practice, practice, practice type scenario where you must do it daily, whether it be 5 minutes or 30 minutes. I know many of us use the excuses in conversations ‘oh I’m so busy’, but in reality, we CAN find at least 5-20 minutes day instead of scrolling on our phone etc.
Practice brings understanding a fluidity and peace to your quiet time. I loved how it broke down the different breathing techniques I can try as well as the many different types of meditations we can try and learn if we wish to go deeper.
Another section was discussing all the myths that are associated with meditating. So many believe it’s a kumbaya type scenario when in actual fact it most certainly does not need to be. An example of me at the moment is learning to deal with the sounds around me whilst everyone is working from home, it’s about learning to hear the noises but still be present in the moment rather than focus on it.
This book also touches on Yoga if that’s your thing.
So, in saying all of the above I highly recommend this book if you’ve been curious about meditation and always wondered if it could be something you have wanted to really try. Purchase this book! Fiona is an expert in her field and doesn’t spin bullshit!.~ Sarah
